Driving to Nairobi National Park is a thrilling experience as you pass through the city outskirts to the national park. Nairobi is a busy town with business going on, the sound of the rolling matatu and motorcycles may be crazy but as you get out of the town about 7 kilometres wait for a lush green conserved ecosystem covering an area space of approximately 117 square kilometres, it is the first national park to be gazette in Kenya in the 1946 and is East Africa’s only park located within the city centre, it is being managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service and is home to abundant wildlife species.

Nairobi National Park is comprised of open Savanah vegetation, acacia woodland, riverine forest to the southern part of the park and marshy swampy areas act the backdrop of Nairobi skyscrapers, the park is home to several wildlife species including African buffaloes, lions, leopards, impala, elands, Masai giraffes, zebras, jackals, hyenas to mention a few and over 400 species have been recorded in the conservation area for example pelicans, hornbills, African fish eagles, African martial eagles, sunbirds, African harrier hawks, ostriches, among other species.  The abundance of several wildlife species will inspire the drive to Nairobi National Park for great adventures.

Driving to Nairobi National Park is one of the fastest ways of getting to the ecosystem, it is advisable to use a 4×4 wheel car drive to beat the terrain within the conservation area when having safaris with a ground-handling tour operator, trips begin from the Jomo Kenyatta international airport, or at an agreed point, Nairobi Traffic may seem heavy especially during the peak hours however as you approach the national park you will be welcomed into a whole different new world.  The drive to Nairobi National Park is a super short drive of 30 minutes. Trips to the ecosystem are a perfect gateway point from the busy Nairobi city.

Nairobi National Park is set within limits in the city, it is possible to have a self-drive or use public means to the biodiverse environment, when doing a self-drive you will be required to hire a game ranger at the park entrance, this is done for a better experience and protection, upon arrival, Nairobi national park can be explored while you are still in your vehicles. Things to do while in the park include game drives these are conducted in sessions, in the early morning, afternoon times and evening, On some occasions it is one place to enjoy a night game drive in search of nocturnal species. In conclusion, Driving to Nairobi National Park can be done any time of the year but is best during the dry season between December-February and June-September when the trails of the national park are drier and easy to access, it is also a high tourism season hence expect to see more travellers to the national park compared to other seasons.
