Queen Elizabeth national park is an amazingly Uganda’s angelic destination and a mix of a biodiverse environment, there is a whole setup of several different ecosystems of the park ranking from the brown savannah grasslands, lush green forests, Katwe crater lakes region, these act as homes to a wildlife species including the so called big four of the wilderness, (African elephants, lions, leopards and Buffaloes), many travelers have described the park as a “medley of wonders” and indeed it perfectly fits its travel description, the park falls on the lee ward side of the Rwenzori mountain range giving it a cool atmosphere most of the year. The 1978 square kilometer national park is undeniably the best place to do game drives in Uganda.
Game drives in Queen Elizabeth national park are conducted in sectors, the drives are the main tour theme for travelers to the national park , it is on game drives that there is a chance to see the fauna and flora of the national park, there are circuits that have been created by the Uganda wildlife authority to ease the viewing of animals, the Kasenyi plains is the most popular for game drives in the national park however there are other parts like the channel circuit , Ishasha circuit and drive around the crater lakes region, these present a chance to view most of the park national biodiverse environment. Kasenyi plains is an open savannah a habitat to wildlife, mammal species can be seen through the well distributed game routes, popular sights include lions, leopards, waterbucks, bush bucks, leopards, giant forest hogs, sitatungas, oribi, hyenas, Kobs, forest elephants. There is a lot of animal activity taking place in this region it is a breeding ground for Uganda Kobs and hence many lions are sported hunting.
Game drives in the Ishasha Queen Elizabeth national park, it is well known for its tree climbing lions in the fig trees along the animal corridor of the southern part of the park, it is one of the most unique things that are done by lions of the region, it is believed that these have adapted to this life style due to many Tsese flies and hot weather of savannah, it is visited by travelers moving to other parts of the western Uganda, the Ishasha sector is an animal corridor connecting to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, during the game drives, on a lucky day you will be chanced to view a number of tree climbing lions in the fig and acacia trees, other mammals like topi, oribi, hyenas are present in the national park.
Queen Elizabeth national park are best done during the dry season between December- January and June- August, these times are drier hence shorter grasses and ease to view animals, the game tracks are less slippery in the dry season, this said the national park can be visited all throughout the year even during the wet season in the months of April, may, November and March.
