Gorilla permit fees are determined by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. These are charged to be able to manage and maintain the national conservation area as it is part of the entities that are run by the authority, the national protected area is the smallest of Ugandan conservation areas covering an area space of approximately 33.7 square kilometers, it hosts the Ugandan forest of the 3 volcanoes (Mgahinga, Sabinyo, and Muhabura), it was gazette as a way of protecting the critically endangered species of the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

Gorilla trekking is the main activity of the national park, it is done beginning at  the Ntebeko park headquarters, gorilla permits in Mgahinga national park are charged $700 foreign nonresidents, $600 foreign residents and 250,000 shillings for east African citizens, in the park each day is just 8 permits reason is a group of 8 travelers is allowed to track the habituated gorilla family in the national park called the Nyakagezi gorilla group, this primarily is to reduce pressure on the primates to avoid situations of them fuming on humans and low impact to the conservation area.

Gorilla trekking fees in Mgahinga national park include park entrance and conservation fees, guide fees, community fees, the cost may be expensive but worth the experience is worth your funds, it is a once in a life time experience that you cannot meet anywhere, the hike is tedious but so heart melting as you meet the majestic creatures face to face. Permit fees are charged fully to the Uganda wildlife authority, it can be through purchased directly or through a tour operator.

In situations where guests are not able to see gorillas this day they are given a chance to do the same the following day or reschedule their permits within a date that is in the same year. Trekking mountain gorillas depends on how far they have moved within the park, because it is a steep slope it is important to maintain your pace while doing the activity. In order to enjoy a gorilla hike in the national park it is wise to pack right for your gorilla safari, take warm clothes, ponchos, waterproof covers for phones and cameras, long sleeved shirts and trousers, insect repellants and any other items of personal nature.

Gorilla trekking in the Mgahinga national park is done while following the rules and regulations of the Uganda wildlife authority, for example keeping the 7 meter distance rules, guests under the age of 15 years are not allowed in the national park, eating and smoking while in the park is prohibited, guests with communicable diseases like flu are not allowed to do the tracking among other rules that are always briefed before the start of any gorilla safari.

Other things to do in Mgahinga national park include the golden monkey tracking also found in the bamboo forest region of the park, birding in Mgahinga national park, Batwa community experience , guided nature walks and hiking the Virunga mountains with in the national conservation area.
