Ruaha National Park is strategically placed in the heart of Tanzania, it offers a beautiful glimpse of wildlife in less crowded environments and yet so virgin, the park boasts a large number of African elephants alongside other animal species covering an area space of approximately 20,000 square kilometres it is one of the largest national protected conservation areas of the country rich with the game- dotted in the savannah, woodlands, marshy swampy areas and along the rock kopjes. It is a true secret a descriptive African wilderness. The national park was gazette in 1964 as a way of protecting species that live here.

It is named after river Ruaha a local word to means “Water” derived from the Hehe local tribe, game drives arethe main activity of the conservation area along which there are popular sights of animals for example black Rhinos, white Rhinos, lions, greater and lesser Kudus, zebras and other smaller species of antelopes, bird watching especially during winter time when there are migratory species to the national park,  have adventurous views of the great rift valley region while overlooking the vast savannah disappearing into the woods.

How to reach Ruaha National Park is by road or by air, by road, it takes approximately 625kilometres from Dar-es-Salaam and 130kilometres from Iringa, these road transfers are done from the respective airports where guests will land, these can be arranged to private transfer using 4×4 wheel car drives from ground handlers or the hotel that has been booked for your dinner and staying overnight, or a self-drive around the countryside of Tanzania, however, it is safer for one to use a registered tour operator.  Getting to the conservation area is super draining but enjoyable at the end of the day as you get a chance to drive through small beautiful towns and villages, as you approach the national park, expect to meet wildlife en route.

Getting to Ruaha National Park by air is mostly used bytravellers from different airports, the national park is served by 2 major airstrips including the Msembe and Jongeremo International Airport, domestic flight handlers fly crafts to the national park on scheduled and charter flights depending on guest like. When flying in Tanzania it is wise to take your passport, visa, and other requirements needed to access Tanzania. There are domestic flights that connect through conservation areas for example the Serengeti National Park which gives a chance of getting to more than one park in one trip.

The best time to visit the national park is during the dry season in the months of December-February and June-early September when the trails and much drier and accessible, it is also referred to as a high tourism season in other destinations however Ruaha will remain as les populated as usual. The park is quite difficult to access but it is for this reason that it has not been tampered with. En route it is possible to visit other conservation areas for example it takes approximately 320 kilometres to Mikumi National Park.
