Tsavo West National Park is a beautiful destination to the south of Kenya. It straddles the country border with Tanzania and is popular for its large populations of red brick African elephants, the park is home to the so-called big five of the Wilderness; African elephants, lions, buffaloes, Rhinos, and leopards. The 9057 square kilometre park occupied most of the land area of the Tsavo national park which is divided into the Tsavo west and east national parks. During the construction of the East African railway, the whole ecosystem became famous due to man-eaters a group of lions that are said to have attached and eaten man, this is some way made the national park a scary place however as the years passed it has been one of the most thrilling destinations of the country to reach out.

The park features a growing Savannah grassland dotted with ant hills, volcanic cones, shrubs, short scattered trees, water holes and marshy swampy areas, these act as habitats to the several animal species that call this home, for example, hippos, crocodiles, zebras, waterbucks, buffaloes, impalas, hartebeests, wilddogs to mention a few and over 500 species of birds have been recorded in the national park to date, like ground hornbills, pelicans, African harrier hawks, martial eagles among others.

How to reach Tsavo West National Park can be by road or by air transfer, by road it takes approximately 240 kilometres to the national park passing through beautiful villages and towns, time hours is a 5 to 6 hours drive along smooth tarmac roads, it, however, gets tough when you get inside the park which is quite bumpy when using the road the park can be accessed from Mombasa via the highway that cuts through it, it can be accessed from Amboseli National park. It is advisable to use a strong car when going to the national park a 4×4 wheel car drive. Driving to the Tsavo West National Park can be done on self-drive or with the aid of a tour operator.

How to reach Tsavo West National Park by air begins from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or Wilson Airport, domestic flights can be arranged to land at the nearest airstrip Tsavo Gate Airstrip, Ziwani Airstrip, Kamboyo Airstrip among others from here that you will be transferred by road to accommodation facilities that have been booked for your dinner and staying overnight.

How to reach Tsavo West National Park is convenient during the dry season between the months of December-February and June-September when the trails of the park are drier and easier to access. Despite the dry season being a better one to visit the national park, it is possible to have access to the park anytime of the year even during the wet season.

In conclusion, once you reach the national park, there are several things to do while here beginning with game drives, visiting the Mzima waterfalls which originate from the Chuylu rocks and visiting the Shetani Lava rocks among other things.
