Lake Mburo Guided Nature Walks are conducted through the well-distributed game trails in the conservation area, the absence of large mammals like elephants makes it a proper location to go on a walk with safety, however there has to be guidance from the Uganda wildlife game ranger of Lake Mburo national park. The national park was first gazette as a protecting hunting round in 1963 and grazing ground for the Ankole cattle keepers, however, later as governments kept on changing during Obote’sregime the park was closed off from the communities. Lake Mburo National Park covers an area space of 370 square kilometers strategically placed en route along the Kampala Masaka-Mbarara highway.

Lake Mburo guided nature walk will allow getting closer to nature while in the protected area, these are conducted along the Rwonyo trail and the Salt Lake trail, and you will find many animals like zebras, buffaloes, Kobs, topi, elands, warthogs a few, the park is safe in that one does not have to worry about safety because they’re not even large cats like leopard and lions. The walk begins at 7:00 am from the Rwonyo rest campand takes about 2 hours, you will pass through the Rubanga forest a calm cool point of many birds expect to see species like sunbirds, African finfoot, martial eagles, pelicans, and vultures among others. The salt lick trail will take you to see animals that gather around here to drink water for example zebras, buffaloes, kobs, and other antelope species.

The experienced guide from the Uganda Wildlife Authority will get you to enjoy most of the park during the walk, you will get to enjoy their information about the national park species, and it gives you close contact with nature the fun bit of these walks is that they can be even outside the park premises, walk is best done during the dry season between December- January and June- September, it is the best time as the trails are drier and grasses down. Other things to do in thepark include game drives, which are conducted in the morning, afternoon and evening times on search of wildlife, drives are done using 4*4 wheel cars with open rooftops for a proper view of the animals and taking pictures, except to meet many zebras and antelopes of different species.

Boat cruises along Lake Mburo are not to miss while in the park, these are done hand in hand with the morning game drives, the cruise lasts for 2-3 hours enjoying the views of the vast savannah dotted with short shrubs and bushes, and along the mashed areas it is possible to site endemics of birds like the African fin foot. The other best thing to do in the national park is horseback riding, it is the only place in Uganda where this activity is done in conservation areas, animals tend to feel much more comfortable around them compared to when one is using a vehicle, the sides are epic an excellent while doing horseback riding.
